This happened a month or so ago, but finals and the like kept me from ever getting around to posting it. Now, I bring you a treat. For those of you who have been playing for a good long while, you may know about the Dragons of Nightmare. If not, in short, there are four corrupted green dragons, twisted and/or driven mad by the Emerald Nightmare. They appear at the four portals in Great Trees in Azeroth(one in each Duskwood, Ashenvale, Feralas, and the Hinterlands). They are old school, raid bosses.
In short, these dragons are hard to find these days. Kevin has looked for them for a while and if I recall only ever found one before that was being fought by some other people. I have checked myself before, but not often, they are frankly kind of out of the way. However, on one fun day, Kevin managed to find one of the dragons spawned in Ashenvale, so I hopped on my death knight and we set off to kill it, without fire.
Mistake. Without knowing anything about the dragon, Kevin(a rogue, if you don’t know) and I with my blood tank DK attacked. Turns out, these dragons with only 832,000 hp have a few tricks that make the fights tricky. There is a fog that creeps around putting you to sleep. A stacking debuff from the breath attack that adds a 10 cooldown to any ability you use(stacks up to 6 times, so you do the math for how long that is total). And beyond that the standard dragon things, a breath, tail sweep, etc. Ysondre specifically has a lightning wave, and apparently summons druids to help her, but I don’t recall ever seeing any of those.
In short, without planning ahead, Kevin and I died. Then had to wait fifteen minutes to try again for this aura to wear off, the clever way of ensuring people that died during the fight way back when didn’t try to rez mid-fight. While we were waiting, my huntard brother logged on, so we brought him in to help. It was kind of nice, cause the dragons are immune to nature damage, so Kevin’s poison damage was absent. The second time was the charm, we killed it, and got some really lame loot. I encourage you all to hunt these guys, or any other old world raid bosses. Why? Because they are cash pinata’s if you can solo them or bring a couple friends.
As a final note, and the best note to end on. When we were waiting around to pull, a low level Alliance Paladin came wandering over and was watching us. He climbed up on the ramp for a better look and just kind of stood there. I bet some of you can see where I am going with this. When I pulled, I made sure to stand on him so he took a breath right to the face. He died, we laughed.
We’re awesome. Except Sheldon, cause hunters are dumb.
